We had book club last night and I didn't get home until way too late (unfortunately WAY too late is now 11 pm for me) to finish a post I'd started earlier.

I finished these two books this week (although not for book club). I would definitely recommend The Secret Life of Bees. I'm really excited to see the movie- but since I'd already seen previews I couldn't shake the idea that Lily (the main character) looked/spoke like Dakota Fanning. I wish the book had ended a little sooner and I got a tad bored for a few pages- but overall I enjoyed it.

It was so strange to me that these books were written by the same author. They are SO different in every way imaginable.

I would NOT recommend The Mermaid Chair. ew. I really really didn't like it at all. It was all about a woman who has an affair with a Monk. ew. I hated the premise and the theme.

I'm starting the book Ghost Story by Peter Straub- anybody read it?

    I have heard several bad reviews of the Mermaid Chair, so I think I'll skip it. I will definately check out Secret Lives of Bees! Thanks for the recommendations!

    I liked Secret Life of Bees but was spared Mermaid Chair by bad reviews that I read. What was the book club book?

    It was super disappointing reading The Mermaid Chair after Secret life of Bees. Can't believe they're from the same author. I really felt ripped off having read it.

    I agree. I'm embarrassed that I even finished "The Mermaid Chair". It was so SO weird. I really enjoyed "The Secret Life of Bees". Can't wait to hear what you think about "Ghost Story".

    I heard alot about "Bees". I'm not much of a reader but I just finished "Inkheart" and loved it. It's a little bit fantasy, but still fun.

    Loved Bees, hated Mermaid. I, too, could not believe they were by the same author. Did you use these for a relief societ book group?

    I totally agree. Secret life of bees, good, mermaid chair, iggies! I read these a couple years ago in Ohio when they came out. Craig's mom really liked the secret life of bees.
